Finally, things are getting started in Cologne yesterday. The imm cologne opens its doors and will be at the focus of the furniture world for the coming week. And we’ll be right there in the centre of it, devouring design news, presentations, houses, testing chairs, sitting at tables, lying on beds and sofas. Furniture is thrilling and important – we all own some, we encounter it on a daily basis at practically any moment, we conciously perceive it or just find it there. To some people, furniture is substantially important (to us!) and to others, it is just secondary. How about you? Show us your furniture or furniture that you come across on a daily basis, take a funny instagram picture, twitter it via Hashtag #wfd12 and you never know,  you might win your photo as a direct print under acrylic glass, from us to you!

# Using the Instagram App, take a spontaneous, funny, or bizarre photo of any piece of furniture at your place, at the supermarket or inside the trainstation, airport, at school, at the office, or wherever you might find yourselves.

World Furniture Day is an user-generated event which allows everybody to participate and to contribute his/her unique ideas about furniture.

World Furniture Day is based on the notion that furniture is a global language that everybody speaks and understands: everybody needs and uses furniture – this is our common cultural heritage and diversity is the base on which we want to build this event on a global scale.

World Furniture Day is an open event platform – everybody that has a meaningful contribution shall be able to express his ideas about furniture and interior design.

We initiated it, because we think that we can make the world a better place by making better and more innovative furniture.

World Furniture Day is an open and independent global platform. We are not affiliated to any manufacturer, dealer or brand. This is a community-driven project, that is co-created by enthusiastic and creative people stemming from all kind of races, religions and ethnic backgrounds. For us, diversity is a virtue and creativity a unique ability of mankind to express itself.

Therefore we welcome all kinds of unusual, off-beat design approaches as well as classical concepts of quality in design and sustainability in production. We share a holistic view with our friends around the globe and want to promote new ways to think about furniture design and innovation.

Who we are?!

We love interior design and furniture. And we think, that it is high time for all interior design and furniture fans to unite. Around the globe, around the clock.

Ricarda will be blogging for you. She is also blogging at 23qm Stil, an interior design blog in Germany. Ricarda is a highly creative person and has a lot of ideas for a wide variety of community activities. Here are some keywords: flashmobs, tweetups, parties, photos, instagram – you name it …

Frank is a Social Media guy, doing a wide range of user-generated projects and unconferences (i.e. barcamps like the first European DesignCamp, the GamesCamp and the PhotoCamp) – he invented World Furniture Day and will take care of all the social media activities, the co-ordination of the activites and the search for people that help us to create this very special day. Co-creators welcome!
